Business Papers: The discreet display of business papers is permitted, but discouraged, in the member dining rooms. Private rooms are available for business meetings.

Cell Phones, PDAs, Laptops: Cell phones, personal digital assistants, laptops, and other similar devices may only be used in the Business Center or private meeting rooms except that the discrete use is permitted, but discouraged, in the Old Café and the main hallways. The use of speakerphones is prohibited, and all cell phone alerts must be silenced throughout the League House except in private rooms.

Dress Code: It is the intention of the Dress Code to provide a set of guidelines within which it is expected that members and guests will demonstrate discretion and good judgment. It is the responsibility of each member to conform to the Dress Code, and to ensure that family members and guests do so as well. While all children are expected to be appropriately attired, children over the age of twelve (12) are required to conform to the dress code.

For men:

Jacket and collared shirt are required at all times on the first floor members-only section of the League House and the Boker Room on the ground level. Jacket and tie are preferred.

For women:

Dresses, blouses and skirts, or pants suit are considered appropriate, professional attire. Pants should be tailored and are acceptable when worn with a jacket or other garments which would be appropriate if worn with a skirt.

Exceptions:

  • Jacket and tie are required in the Café Meredith dining room for lunch Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Jackets are not required at breakfast or for Saturday lunch.
  • Business casual attire may be worn throughout the League House during the summer months, Memorial Day to Labor Day.*
  • Business casual dress is permitted in private meeting rooms.*

* Business Casual Attire

Business casual attire is defined as a collared shirt and slacks. Members and guests may enter the League House using the Sansom Street entrance and transition through the first floor in business casual attire. Members and guests staying at the Inn at the League or using the Fitness Center may come and go as they are by using the Sansom Street entrance and the elevators to and from their overnight rooms.

Unacceptable Attire:

The following attire is never acceptable on the first or second floors of the League: jeans, denim wear, tee shirts, athletic wear, tank, halter, or jogging tops, shorts, baseball caps, sneakers, extremely casual or beach footwear.

Gratuities: The Union League is generally a non-tipping institution. Tips may be given to parking lot attendants, the barber, and the shoe polisher.

Guest Entrance: Guests coming to the League for private dining or catered functions should enter and exit the building through the Sansom or 15th Street doors. These doors provide the best access to our private dining rooms.

Guest and Sponsor Responsibilities: Guests must sign the guest register and be accompanied by their host. Guests may be hosted at the League House no more than six times per year for regular dining or member events. Cash bars are restricted to private events held in a private room. The Union League reserves the right to deny access to any guest.

Guide Animals: Guide animals for the handicapped are welcomed at the Union League. Other animals are prohibited.

Inn at the League: Member-sponsored guests and reciprocal members may use the Inn at the League. While staying at The Inn, guests may use the entire League House. All Inn guests are subject to the House Rules and must settle their account upon departure by using a credit card or having the charges posted to a pre-authorized members account.

Intoxicating Beverages: Employees of the League are not to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears intoxicated. Consumption of alcoholic beverages on League premises by anyone under the age of twenty-one (21) is prohibited.

Loss of Property: Although the Union League does provide facilities for hats, coats, briefcases, umbrellas and similar belongings of members and guests, the Union League cannot be responsible for any loss of, or damage to, such property.

Private Dining Rooms: Member-sponsored guests and reciprocal members are permitted to use the League’s private dining rooms. Members sponsoring private functions are responsible for the deportment of their guests as well as all charges incurred by them, including cost of any damage to the League House or its contents. Guests invited to a private function are not permitted to use the Library, Business Center, Old Café, or the members’ dining rooms.

Reciprocal Members: Reciprocal members must obtain a guest card at the front desk. All reciprocal members are subject to our House Rules and must settle their account by credit card at the end of their visit.

Smoking: Smoking is allowed in the Cigar Lounge and the Sitting Bar only and at designated areas during League sponsored events.

Sponsoring Functions: A League member sponsor is required for all private functions.
