MEMBERSHIP: MEMBERSHIP PROCESS

A Six Step Process

The process of becoming a member of the Union League involves six important steps.

  1. You must be nominated as a candidate by a member of the League, who will serve as your proposer. Your proposer will guide you through the process and will act as your liaison with the League.

  2. In addition, you will need five other sponsors, the first of which is your seconder. Including your proposer, a total of six sponsors are required.

  3. You are required to complete the written proposal for membership, which also must be signed by your proposer and returned to the Member Services Office.

  4. Your six sponsors are contacted by the Member Services Office to provide references on your suitability for League membership. This procedure is intended to illustrate the relationship each sponsor has with each candidate.

  5. The entire membership is notified that you have been proposed for membership. Members are asked to provide any information, objections or recommendations that could impact your proposal.

  6. Following the review of the references, you are called before the Admissions Committee for a personal interview.

If confirmed, you, as a new member of the Union League, will receive a welcome packet and an invitation to the New Member Induction Dinner. You are now a member of the Union League of Philadelphia and entitled to all the benefits of membership. If you are interested in Union League membership, call the Member Services Department at membership@unionleague.org or 215-587-5576.
