Veterans Job Fair Recap

The Union League’s first Veterans Job Fair on October 20 was a resounding success! More than 50 Union League member businesses and hundreds of veterans turned out to seek jobs, talent and opportunities.

On November 17, the Union League Veterans Initiative recorded our first set of veterans hired through the efforts of The Union League Job Fair. Three veterans were offered and accepted jobs at UPS as a result of the Job Fair. Union League member Rosemary Turner is CEO of UPS Philadelphia.

Some 20 Union League members provided coaching for participants, and still more donated suits and professional attire so vets could “dress for success.” The event was free to attend and veterans met business leaders to receive one-on-one mentoring and career feedback. Vets were also able to upgrade their image with complimentary on-site suit fitting by Suiting Warriors.

US Naval Academy graduate and former surface warfare officer Mike Maher chaired the job fair, supported by a committee including Kristie Bergey, Lisa Canoura, Janice Hunt, Karen Lawson, Tiffany Roibu, Lisa Simon, and Roman Tymczyszyn.

Union League members and their businesses can post jobs to hire veterans today through VetConnect, chaired by Dr. Chris D’Ascenzo. Simply visit www.unionleague.org, click Veterans Initiative and input job openings via email.

VetConnect formats and distributes these job openings to community partners within 24 hours. VetConnect ensures that veteran applicants go directly to Union League member hiring departments so that selection, interviewing and hiring activities are managed by member companies.

The Union League Job Fair and VetConnect are programs presented by the Veterans Initiative, chaired by Army veteran and Life Member, Mary L. Hagy.
